William “Bill” Harrell Elmore, age 68, a resident of Fredonia, Kansas passed away Friday, July 23, 2010 at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. He was born on August 11, 1941 in Gordo, Alabama, the son of Thermon Okley and Mary Olivia (McDaniel) Elmore.
On August 27, 1962 Bill was united in marriage to Janice Jean Jordan in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. He served four years in the United States Air Force earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. Bill was a member of the Buxton Christian Church. His work as a hunting guide for a big game outfitter in Wyoming as a young man led to a lifetime love for the “Old West” and outdoor activities. He especially enjoyed riding horses and quail hunting. Bill devoted 30+ years of service to the United States Postal Service and retired Post Master of the Buffalo, Kansas office.
Bill is survived by his wife Janice Elmore of Fredonia, Kansas, his daughter Mary Janean Elmore of Fredonia, Kansas, his son Grant Okley Elmore and wife Julie (Smith) Elmore of Fredonia, Kansas. Two sisters; Shirla Jean Dyer and her husband Holly and Mary Katherine Tilley and her husband Mac all of Gordo, Alabama and six grandchildren: Eligiah Todd Dozier, Mary Kaitlin Dozier, Abby Baker, Jade Baker, Sawyer Baker and Tucker Baker. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Early Lee “Buddy” Elmore.
Memorial funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at Countryside Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Benefiel officiating. Family will receive friends Tuesday morning from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
