Betty Jane (Ballou) Stevenson

Betty Jane (Ballou) Stevenson was born February 27, 1947 in Chanute, Kansas. She was the daughter of Charles Nelson and Mary Frances (Bartley) Ballou. She passed away November 14, 2019 at Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul, Kansas. She was 72. Betty married Tom Stevenson on June 20, 1965. They were high school sweethearts and shared 54 beautiful years of marriage. He survives. She also leaves two daughters, Michelle Gilbert (Chad) of Topeka and Julie Seiler (Steve) of Wichita; four grandchildren, Hannah, Halle, Caleb, and Caden Seiler of Wichita; and a brother, Charlie Ballou (Myrna) of Overland Park. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Frances Ballou. Family was very important to Betty. She loved gathering everyone together, especially for holiday celebrations. Nothing brought her more joy than loving on and shopping for her grandkids! Betty enjoyed collecting a variety of things such as teapots, thimbles, spoons, sunflowers and figurines. She was especially fond of anything Betty Boop. She loved to crochet and made beautiful blankets for all of the grand babies, including her grand pups, Glory and Gizmo. Betty devoted her life to helping others. While her primary career was raising her family, she also spent many years at both Murray Hill Elementary School and as a Customer Service Manager at the Chanute Wal-Mart. Betty was adored by her family and friends and will be deeply missed. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at both Prairie Mission Retirement Village and Harry Hines Hospice for their loving care and support the past couple of years. They became family! The family will greet friends and family on Monday, November 18, 2019 from 5-7 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home Johnson Chapel in Chanute, KS. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Chanute, KS. Burial will follow at Neosho County Memorial Park Cemetery in Chanute. The family suggests memorials to be made to the First Christian Church in Chanute or Harry Hynes Hospice and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
