Lewis James "Joe" Boan

June 9, 1935 - August 8, 2019

Lewis James “Joe” Boan, age 84 of Buffalo, KS, passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2019 in Chanute, KS. He was born on June 9, 1935 in Emporia, KS, the son of Ray Boan and LaVerne (Boan) Miller. Joe was a farmer at heart and enjoyed farming for most of his life. He served in the Kansas National Guard for 9 years. He also helped build the Gas City Sale Barn and worked there as well as the Chanute Sale Barn. Joe later worked at Gates Rubber Company and eventually retired from there. In his later years, he made his home in Buffalo, KS where he enjoyed making wagons and going on trail rides with his mules and horses. Joe is survived by: Son: Randall Boan of Chanute, KS Sisters: Leona Hansen and husband Tom Donna Tripp and husband Richard Brother: Jack Boan Numerous Nieces and Nephews Joe was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Naomi Bluma. Cremation has been requested. The family will be holding a memorial service at a later date. He will be laid to rest at Colfax Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at: www.countrysidefh.com. The family suggests memorials to be made to City of Buffalo Fireworks Fund and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home, 101 N. Highland, Chanute, KS 66720.
