Ronald Dean Allison

October 30, 1934 - September 17, 2019

Ronald Dean Allison, age 84, of Mineola, TX and formerly of Grenola, KS, passed away September 17, 2019 in Tyler, TX. Ronald was born October 30, 1934 to Francis Rex “Curley” and Velma Ellen Allison in Woodward, OK. The Allison family moved from Oklahoma to Kansas when Ronald was five years old. In his early years he began working with his dad and brothers managing a ranch in South Central Kansas, and that experience prepared him for a life-long career in the ranching industry. On October 31, 1954, Ronald married Mary Alice Burdett in Grenola, KS at the Grenola Christian Church. Together they had 4 children: Debra, Sarah, Vance and Brian. He was a member of the Grenola Christian Church for over 60 years and served as an elder for 52 years before moving to Mineola, TX in 2018. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, and raised and trained registered quarter horses for a number of years. He competed in numerous cutting horse competitions, bringing home a number of trophies. He enjoyed riding his horses, working cattle with area ranchers, and teaching adult bible class on Sunday morning. He was an avid reader of history and western literature and had many stories to share of his life as a cowboy. “He will be greatly missed by his family, but our loss is his victory!” Ronald is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Alice Allison of the home in Mineola, TX. Daughters: Debra Clemons (Don), Mineola, TX Sarah Leftwich (Jim), Derby, KS Sons: Vance Allison (Nancy), Columbia, MO Brian Allison, Oklahoma City, OK Sisters: Rita Baker (Gary), Rose Hill, KS Verna Brooks, Sedan, KS Brothers: Max Allison (Delcia), Winfield, KS Clifford Allison (Karen), Yoder, WY 4 Grandchildren, 5 Great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces & nephews He was preceded in death by his parents, Curley and Velma Allison, sister, Carol Stegelman and husband Elvin, sister-in-law, Juvene Allison, and brother-in-law, Bill Brooks. Visitation will be held Sunday, September 22nd from 5-7 pm at Countryside Funeral Home in Howard, KS Funeral service will held Monday, September 23rd at 10:00 am at the Grenola Christian Church in Grenola, KS Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Grenola, KS The family suggests that memorials be made to the Grenola Christian Church in Grenola, KS and/or Hospice of East Texas in Tyler, TX. They may be mailed to or left with the Funeral Home. Services entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, PO Box 1233, Howard, KS 67349.
