Dear Scott, Jaena and Gary,
I am so deeply saddened by your great loss.
Your mom Carolyn and the entire Coates family welcomed me in their home in 1987 as an Exchange student from Spain becoming my American family for the school year. Carolyn touched my life in so many ways and I have such fond memories of her. I remember her great sense of humor, her passion for music, and her commitment to youth, community and choir programs and to the Methodist church. We went to so many places together, we walked around the neighborhood to exercise (after snacking) so many times, we spent a lot of time together and talking. She was always so happy and full of life. Always talking about her children and Greg and then later Robynn and her books and grandchildren and stepchildren. She and Gary were kind enough to come to meet me at Tulsa and it was so great to see how happy they were.
Please accept my deepest condolences. My American mom and you are all are in my thoughts and prayers
Love,
Marina
I have so many fond memories of Carolyn, it is hard to know where to begin.... Whether it was visiting with her while I was at the Ashley Clinic, singing under her direction in church choir, doing activities with her in youth group, or just hanging out at her house, she was always bubbly, enthusiastic, and full of energy. I have a wonderful photo of my mom, Jean Armstrong, and her playing an accordion trio! That was certainly a performance I have yet to ever see anyone else try... She was a wonderful part of those years of my life, and my strongest memory of her will always be her beautiful smile!
My heartfelt sympathies to Scott, Janae and your families at this sad time.
