Hello, my name is Mel Stanley. I served with Bob on the USCGC
Ironwood in 1970-71. Bob was a great friend and a fine bass guitarist
in the 4-piece rock band we created with a lead guitarist, drummer, and me on rhythm guitar. We played many gigs there in Homer. He had a subtle sense of humor that
sometimes creased my eyebrows until I got the point.
I looked up his name online and was saddened to find his obituary, but I’m sure he was a good husband and father. The world was a better place for his presence.

I have many fond memories of Bob playing his trombone in the Tioga Dixieland Jazz Band and the summer Jazz band series in Chanute. And, he always had a joke or lighthearted story to offer at the end of some great music playing. I can envision him now, up in heaven, playing “My Blue Heaven” with my father and grandpa alongside Merle Calhoun singing the alternate lyrics to that song! :)

I'm so sorry for your loss. I worked with Bob in the Crest School system for many years. He was very good to work with and always made sure what he thought was best for the child came first.

Jan, Gene and I were so sorry and shocked to hear of Bob’s passing. Bob was a wonderful person that had a positive effect on everyone’s life that he touched. Mom talked about how good he was as a school psychologist and we sure enjoyed going to the shows at Carthage with you two. Between choir and HCWD I felt like I had known him forever. He will certainly be missed by many and you are in our prayers.

Jan, Bob was good guy, will always remember the Camp Hunter String Band and the fun times it was. His sense of humor and the tunes we played together I will not forget.
