Albert Leon Cheever's Obituary
Albert Leon Cheever, age 76 of Fredonia, KS died September 1, 2007 at Fredonia Regional Hospital.
Albert was born on June 25, 1931 to Arthur Albert and Henrietta Pauline (Miller) Cheever in Toronto, KS. He grew up in the area and graduated from Fredonia High School in 1949. He married Marlene Smith on April 27, 1951 in Fredonia at the First Christian Chruch, she survives at their home.
Albert Joined the U.S. Navy in January 1951, he served during the Korean Conflict, stationed in San Diego, Florida, Texas and Guam. They settled their family in Northern California and later in Tulsa, OK. He graduated from Cosntra Costa County Community College receiving his AA in 1958. Al worked as a retail sales manager for Skaggs stores, retiring in 1990.
In 1992 Al and Marlene moved to Fredonia, he loved the outdoors, college sports, fishing, and bird watching. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle and will be sadly missed by his family.
Survivors including his wife are. One son:Albert Lee of Gretna, NE, two daughters Kathy Bennett of Independence, KS, and Suzanne Rhodes of Lubbock, TX. Four sisters: Violet Prichard of Fredonia, Helen Kitterman of Derby, DeAun Karfstedt of Chandler, AZ, and Melba Shasteen of Benton, KS. One brother: Harold DeCou of Fredonia, 7 grandchildren and 5 great granchildren.
Cremation has taken place, a memorial service will be held Wednesday September 5, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. at the First Christian Church in Fredonia, with Pastor Steve Brodbeck officiating. A private burial will take place at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church of Fredonia. Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com.
