Alfred O. Serrato's Obituary
Alfred O. Serrato, 89, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 in Chanute, KS. Alfred was born on January 5, 1926 in Chanute, KS the son of Juan C. and Brigida Oliva Serrato.
Alfred was in the Army from 1944 – 1945 and served in Germany along the Rhine River under General George Patton. Alfred was proud of his service to his country. After the war, Alfred married Ruth Abaloz in Chanute, KS in 1947 and they had five children together and one step child.
Alfred enjoyed dancing, yard work and being around his family and friends. He enjoyed telling his stories of being in the service and sharing how he was injured during the war. Alfred and his stories will be greatly missed.
Alfred was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, a son, Richard Serrato, a step daughter, Connie (Guiterrez) DeLaGarza, two brothers: Emilio Serrato and Serafin Serrato, a sister, Juanita Ortiz, a grandson, Michael Ysusi and two granddaughters, D’Anna Ysusi and Cindy Plancarte.
He is survived by his children: Billy Joe Guiterrez, Gloria (Serrato) Ysusi, Rita (Serrato) DeLaTorre and John Serrato and his wife Pat, two sisters: Esther Ortiz and Elisa Narvaez, twelve grandchildren, two step grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, three step-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Rosary will be recited Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at 6:30 p.m., at St Patrick’s Catholic Church in Chanute, KS. There will be a visitation prior to the Rosary from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, September 10, 2015 at 10 a.m. at St Patrick’s Catholic Church. Interment will take place at St Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Chanute, KS with military honors provided by Chanute Honor Guard.
Family suggests memorials to the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Altar Society and the Wounded Warrior Project and may be mailed to or left with the funeral home, 101 N. Highland, Chanute, KS 66720.
