Allen H. Barnhart's Obituary
Allen H. Barnhart, 77, of Altoona, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at St. Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on December 23, 1947, in Parsons, Kansas, Allen was a 1965 graduate of Erie High School. He dedicated over 50 years of his life to operating heavy equipment, owner and operator of Barnhart Dozer Service, and notably holding the contract for the Wilson County landfill until his retirement. Beyond his professional endeavors, Allen had a profound passion for automobiles. He not only collected and restored cars but also actively participated in racing Modifieds, proudly displaying the number 1. When not racing, he enjoyed watching NASCAR. Additionally, Allen had a deep affection for breeding and raising Rottweilers and Bull Terriers, always striving to uphold the highest standards for these breeds.
On November 28, 1975, Allen married Antoinette (Toni) Marie Meehan in Neodesha, Kansas. Together, they spent 50 years raising their family and cherishing time with their grandchildren. Allen was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Altoona, Kansas, where he, alongside his family, actively participated in church activities and community life.
Allen is survived by his wife, Toni; children: Laura Hull and husband Jerry of Hugoton, KS; Breck Barnhart and wife Mo of Wichita, KS; Stephanie Cheverie and husband Chris of Carver, MA; Dawn Krokstrom and husband Kevin of Chanute, KS; and Shawn Hines and wife Nicki of Iola, KS. He is also survived by siblings: Carl Barnhart, Jay (Kristy) Barnhart, Ervin (Wendy) Barnhart, Harold Barnhart, Kelly Barnhart, Shirley (David) Lero, Carolyn (William) Gericke, Sharon (Barry) Haviland, and Everly Bruneau. Additionally, he leaves behind 13 grandchildren: Caitlin, Freya, Landon, Weston, Karter, Wyatt, Kady, Garrett, Viola, Sam, Ben, Cole and Cora and 8 great-grandchildren: Sid, Maud, Griffin, Graham, Masyn, Eleanor, Truitt, Rhett with two on the way, who will dearly miss him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Mary Ann (LaSalle) Barnhart, and his son, Brad Wayne Barnhart.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Countryside Funeral Home in Fredonia, Kansas. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 3:00 PM prior to the service. Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Baptist Church in Altoona, Kansas, and may be left at or mailed to the funeral home.
