Allie Mae Gormley's Obituary
Allie Mae Gormley, age 83, of Chanute, KS passed away Saturday, July 22, 2017 at her home. Allie was born on May 9, 1934 in Macon, GA the daughter of Rube and Nonie (Wood) Purvis.
On June 29, 1952, Allie married Joseph R. Gormley in Macon, GA. He preceded her in death.
Allie was foremost a homemaker, mother, and grandmother. She hosted all the family holiday get-togethers at her home. Her house was always the central meeting place for anything that was going on. She and Dad had a lake house and entertained the entire extended family throughout the summers. She was a genuine family matriarch.
She was involved in PTA, worked in 4-H, and was a lunchroom teacher. She was a Brownie Scout leader and Boy Scout den mother. She was a Eastern Star member and served as Worthy Matron. She also served as Mother Advisor for the Rainbow Girls.
Her hobbies were oil painting, floral arranging, gardening, ceramics, toll painting, boating, fishing, dancing, and singing. She also enjoyed reading.

Allie was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, James, Beatrice, Vera, Desi, George, and Audrey; husband, Joseph; and sons, Kevin Gormley and James Gormley; and grandson, Jeffery Dane Gormley.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Countryside Funeral Home – Gibson Chapel from 6-8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 28, 2017 at First Christian Church in Chanute, KS. Interment will follow immediately at Memorial Park Cemetery in Chanute, KS. Online condolences may be left at: www.countrysidefh.com.
