Alvin Marion Gay's Obituary
Alvin M. Gay, age 93, of Chanute, KS passed away Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Diversicare of Chanute. Alvin was born on September 5, 1921 in Texarkana, Texas the son of Allen and Ceila (Roles) Gay.
Alvin graduated from Chanute High School in 1940 and then went on to attend Chanute Junior College. During World War II, he served 4 years in the Navy as a Machinist, First Class and was awarded 7 medals. After leaving the military he worked as a pipeline welder, tank welder and tank inspector for the Great Lakes Pipeline Company for 20 years. After retirement he worked for USD 413 as a custodian for 18 years. Alvin was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 1654, American Legion Post 170, D.A.V. No. 25
He is survived by his two daughters: Sue Shaw of Chanute and Donna Shepard of Barlet, six grandchildren, two step grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
Alvin was preceded in death by his wife Genevia and his parents.
Graveside Services will be held Thursday, June 18, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery in Chanute. Alvin will be in state on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 from 3-5 p.m. and the public can come at their leisure at Countryside Funeral Home Gibson Chapel 16 N. Forest. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Chanute American Legion Honor Guard.
Family requests memorials to the Ambassador Christian Church, and may be mailed to 101 N. Highland, Chanute, KS 66720.
