Amos Johnson's Obituary
Amos E Johnson, 82, a resident of Fredonia, died unexpectedly Friday, June 29, 2007, at his home.
He was born in Neodesha, Dec. 5, 1924, to James Elmer and Leah May (Neer) Johnson. He retired from being a farmer/rancher after 40 years with Newby Farms in Neodesha.
A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army He was awarded the Purple Heart when he was severely wounded on Normandy Beach, where he lost his leg.
A lifetime member of the Fredonia Veterans of Foreign Wars, he was also a member of the Wilson County Old Iron Club, and past president of the Neodesha Saddle Club. He restored and used antique tractors.
On Feb. 24, 1946, he married Willmetta “Billie†Isabel Cunningham in Independence, and she survives at their home.
Other survivors include four daughters, Jeanette Johnson of Fall River, Sue Barker and Becky Lyons, both of Fredonia, and Amy Bunyard of Fall River; one sister, Bonnie Lower of Neodesha; 11 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Freddy Dean; two brothers, Hershel and Alan Johnson, and one sister, Wilma Fay Jannes.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 5, at the Countryside Funeral Home, Fredonia. Mike Myers will officiate. Burial will be in the Fredonia City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 3, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, with the family receiving friends there from 5 to 7 p-.m.
