Ardith Ann Madden's Obituary
Ardith Ann Madden, 74, passed away on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Diversacare in Chanute, KS. Ardith was born on January 6, 1941 in Redding, California the daughter of William and Alma (Haley) Stroup.
In 1957 Ardith married Russell Simpson and the later divorced. In 1964 she married Kenneth Madden and they later divorced.
Ardith worked for Nu-Wa in Chanute as a laborer for 15 years. After retirement she spent her working with SKIL in Chanute for 10 years. She recently received an award for going above and beyond the call with SKIL. She enjoyed supporting veterans and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Chanute Elks Club. Ardith also ran the Chanute Avenue of Flags for 21 years. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, making jewelry, and coon hunting.
Ardith was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Myra Criss, and an infant son Dale Allen Madden.
She is survived by her sons Casey Madden (Karen) of Parsons and Danny Madden (Tami) of Chanute; daughter Lee VanGotten of Chanute; son-in-law Adrian VanGotten; grandchildren Quinn Thomas of San Antonia, TX, Andrea Kephart (Anderson) of Chanute, Andrew Madden of Fort Hood, TX, Tiffany Brown (Mark) of Chanute, Tera McGowen (Levi) of Humboldt, Haley Ellison (Nathan) of Humboldt, Timothy VanGotten (Kaylyn) of Chanute, Ryan Madden of Chanute, and Steevie Madden of Chanute; great-grandchildren Michael Winslow, Anderson and Ryan Kephart, Marlee and Tripp Brown, Jackson and Luke McGowen, Layne and Rylee Ellison, and Kholton and Treyton VanGotten.
There will be a visitation on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at Countryside Funeral Home, Johnson Chapel. The family will hold a private burial at a later date.
Family requests memorials to the Avenue of Flags and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home at 101 N. Highland, Chanute, KS.
