Barbara Jolene Fraser's Obituary
Barbara Jolene Fraser, 56, died Saturday, January 9, 2016 surrounded by her family at Wesley Medical Center Hospital in Wichita, KS after a 10+ year illness and courageous battle with Interstitial Lung Disease.
She was born January 28, 1959 in Sanderson, TX to Alonzo and Joann Houchin. Barbara, aka “Barb” graduated from Fredonia High School in 1978. After graduating, Barb married her high school sweetheart, John Fraser, at the New Albany United Methodist Church on October 20, 1978. Barb worked as a nurse aide and ward clerk at St. Margarets Hospital for several years, then at KS Bank Note until she returned home to raise her children. She remained a homemaker and also a store clerk at Fraser Liquor Store, as well as always assisting John with the care and marketing of his collection of animals, until she was stricken with her illness in April of 2005. In 2006, she moved from her home into her mother-in-law Isa Mae Fraser’s home in Fredonia to become homemaker and caregiver for Isa Mae.
Survivors include her husband John, of Fredonia,
Daughter Patricia Scott and husband of Fredericksburg, VA,
Son Chris Fraser and wife of Webb City, MO,
Grandchildren Taylor and Liam Scott of Fredericksburg, VA,
Her parents Alonzo and Joann Houchin of rural Fredonia,
Brother Roger Houchin and wife of Fredonia,
Sister Brenda Baugher and husband of New Albany,
as well as aunts, uncles, nephews, niece, cousins and many friends.
Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at the Funeral Home.
Services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, January 14, 2016, under the direction of Countryside Funeral Home, at the New Albany United Methodist Church, followed by graveside service at the Fredonia City Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the New Albany United Methodist Church, or the National Jewish Hospital, Denver, Co., (www.nationaljewish.org) and can be left with or mailed to Countryside Funeral Home, PO Box 247, Fredonia, KS 66736.
