Bernard "Joe" Joseph Mudd's Obituary
Bernard “Joe” Joseph Mudd, age 87, of Chanute, KS passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2016 in Chanute. Joe was born on August 18, 1929 on a farm near Walnut, KS the son of Theodore and Ada (Watts) Mudd.
On December 22, 1950, Joe married Estel Ann Magner in Galesburg, KS where they lived together before moving to Chanute in 1960. Estel preceded Joe in death on May 1, 2009.
Joe grew up in rural Galesburg and graduated from Thayer High School in 1947. He worked as a Production manager for GEO Churchill for over 30 years before his retirement. After his retirement he worked part time as an inspector for Young’s Welding and for Chase Contractors doing maintenance work. He also volunteered his time as a reserve police officer and instructor for many years.
Joe was a former member of the Mirza Shriners of Pittsburg, KS and a former member of the MG club. He was also a former member of the Scottish Rite Cedar Lodge #103. In his free time he enjoyed collecting antique cars, going to car shows, and following his grandkid’s activities. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Chanute and was for a time a volunteer with the food pantry there.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Estel and his brother, Eugene Mudd.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, October 27, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Chanute, KS. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2016 from 5-7 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home, Gibson Chapel. Online condolences may be left at: www.countrysidefh.com.
