Bettie L. Hornbuckle's Obituary
Bettie L. Hornbuckle, age 89, resident of Howard, Kansas died Wednesday, March 14, 2013 at the Greenwood County Hospital. Bettie was born March 6, 1924 in Moline, Kansas to Andrew and Minnie (Horning) Brunner. She was a graduate of Moline High School.
Bettie was united in marriage to Jess Lee Hornbuckle and celebrated 59 years of marriage before his death. She worked side by side with Jess in the family businesses and they always made time to spend with family. At a young age Bettie participated in the USO during World War II. She was a member of the Yarborough Fire Department Auxiliary at Lake Millwood, Arkansas. Bettie enjoyed bowling and playing golf.
She is survived by her son Steve Hornbuckle and his wife Barb of Hutchinson, Kansas, her daughter Carol Hornbuckle of Howard, Kansas, one foster-daughter Gayle Curry and her husband Robert of Redding, California, one sister Mary Bruner Thiessen of Hutchinson, Kansas, one brother George Bruner of El Dorado, Kansas, grandchildren; Jason Hornbuckle of Astoria, New York and Tonya Navarro and her husband Darick of Hutchinson, Kansas and two great grandchildren Gabe and Mia Navarro both of Hutchinson. Bettie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jess and one brother Frank Bruner.
Graveside funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at the Moline Cemetery in Moline, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until noon Tuesday at the funeral home. Family suggests contributions be made to the Elk County EMS and may be left with the funeral home. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.countrysidefh.com.
