Betty Burris Crawford's Obituary
Betty Bideau Crawford passed away peaceably on January 7, 2017 while staying in Overland Park, Kansas at the home of her daughter. Betty’s husband, Earle Crawford, preceded her in death in 1995.
She was born on August 20, 1927 to Edwin H. Bideau I and Marie Burris Bideau, in Chanute, KS. Both sides of her family came to the Chanute area as early day pioneers. She was raised in Chanute, graduated from Chanute High School, and attended the Junior College for a short while before getting married. Her younger sister Anne Bideau Skinner, and her older brother, Edwin H. Bideau II, preceded her in death.
Betty played the cello in many Chanute and Iola venues, and belonged to a number of local clubs and organizations, including, St. Cecilia, PEO, Holly Mother’s Club, and the First Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school and played the bells. She also worked as the NCCC bookstore manager from 1978 - 1995, and while in High School and Junior College during WWII she worked as a reporter for the Chanute Tribune.
She is survived by her Daughter, Cindy Parker, of Overland Park, and Son and Daughter in law, Craig and Cheryl Crawford, now living in Chanute, and Daughter-in-Christ (and niece) Margaret Bideau.
Her Grandchildren include, Adam and Katie Crawford, Dr. Margie David and her husband Dr. Ryan David with their children Wyatt, Elise, and Emma David, Grandson Warren Parker, and Grandson (soon to be) Dr. Grant Parker.
Betty’s nieces and nephews include Ruthanne Waggoner, Brian Bideau, and David and Dairlee Bideau, of Chanute, KS, and Jim Skinner with his wife and family, along with a number of beloved nieces and nephews who live outside the Chanute area, with many grand and great-grand-nieces and nephews, all whom she loved dearly.
Visitation will be on Friday, January 13, 2017 from 5-7 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home – Johnson Chapel on 101 N. Highland in Chanute, KS. A Funeral Service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Chanute, KS on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 3 p.m. Burial will take place at a later date.
