Betty Jean (Wilson) Buckner's Obituary
Betty Jean (Wilson) Buckner, age 83, peacefully passed away in Chanute, KS on Jan. 17, 2015. Betty was born on May 1, 1931 in Independence, KS; the daughter of Loras and Rena (Cook) Wilson.
Betty was raised here in Chanute and attended Chanute Schools. After high school Betty continued her education by attending Chanute Jr. College earning her Associates Degree as well as a Certification in Education. In 1950, she met and married Marvin Buckner. The couple was blessed with three daughters: Donna, Nancy and Janice. The couple made their home in Chanute, where Betty remained until her death.
Being an avid quilter was one of Betty’s pride and joy. She also enjoyed reading, gardening and camping. Betty was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Chanute.
Betty Jean (Wilson) Buckner was preceded in death by her parents; her spouse Marvin in 1995; her brother Earl Kenneth Wilson, and son-in-law Jon Trout. She is survived by her daughters: Donna Malson and husband Ken on Hunt, TX, Nancy Trout Heenan and husband Michael of Parsons, KS and Janice Hutson of Chanute, KS; her grandchildren: Brandon Trout and wife Rachel, Sarah Trout and husband Bill Perez and Eric Hutson and wife Kim; step-grandchildren: Amanda Malson and Gayla Mullins and husband Joel. In addition she is also survived by ten great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews as well as many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Betty Buckner are planned for Wed., Jan. 21, 2015 at 1:30PM at Countryside Funeral Home- Johnson Chapel, Chanute, KS; burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. No formal visitation is planned; the family suggests memorials be made to Castaways Animal Shelter and sent in care of Countryside Funeral Home 101 N. Highland Chanute, KS 66720.
