Beuna C. Taylor's Obituary
Beuna C. Taylor, a longtime Howard resident, passed away at Greenwood
County Hospital on Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at the age of 94.
The daughter of John “Monte” Edwards and Mary R. Leonard Edwards,
Beuna was born in Oak Valley Township on August 15, 1918. She attended
high school in Longton, and later went to Southwestern College where
she earned her Master’s Degree in education.
She was united in marriage to Allen Taylor on June 21, 1947 in
Independence, Kansas. Allen later passed away in 1974.
Beuna spent 43 years educating students in one room schoolhouses,
and later in Elk Falls and Haysville. Following that she became
involved in many organizations such as Delta Kappa Gamma, Eastern
Star, Royal Lima’s, EHU, the library board, Benson Museum board, and
most important the National Education Association.
She is survived by her sister Ernestine Cannon of Latham, KS, two
sister-in-laws, Mary Ellen Edwards of Sedan, KS, and Wilda Grace Lewis
of Belle Plaine. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband
Allen Taylor, brothers; Montgomery, Chelsea and Kenneth Edwards, and
sister Marie Seimears.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Friday, June 28, 2013 at
Countryside-Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard, KS. Visitation will be
held Thursday from 2-4 at the funeral home. Family has suggested
memorials to the Howard City Library and the Benson Museum, and may be
left with the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at
