Billy Joe McCann's Obituary
Billy Joe McCann, 92, of Chanute, KS passed away Friday May 31, 2024 at Medical lodges in Fort Scott, KS. Billy was born on March 22, 1932 to his Father George McCann and Mother Maud (McGregor) McCann.
Bill was a hard construction worker for most of his life. He worked for Heckert Construction Co, Kansas State Highway Commission as a Dump Truck Driver. He enlisted in 1951 with the Marines he served until 1955. He transferred from USMC to Marine Corps Reserve obligated service until 1960. After his military service he held many odd jobs off and on throughout his life.
In his free time he enjoyed MANY cups of coffee, doing yard work, he liked his yard to look really nice! He also enjoyed taking rides, fishing with his grandchildren, and loved working on small engines.
Bill is survived by his 4 children and many grand children and great grandchildren.
Billy is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, one son & one infant son. A graveside service will be held on Thursday June 6, 2024 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Chanute, Kansas at 11:30am. Memorials can be made out to the Wounded Warrior Project and may be left with or Mailed to Countryside Funeral Home 101 N. Highland St. Chanute, KS 66720
