Bruce Edward Eckland's Obituary
Bruce Edward Eckland, age 92, a longtime resident of rural Howard, Kansas passed away Thursday, June 23, 2011 at the Harry Hynes Hospice Unit in Wichita, Kansas. He was born on February 1, 1919 in Wichita the son of Paul and Katherine Eckland.
Bruce served in the United States Army during World War II. On February 9, 1941, he married Jean Madeline Mason in Wichita, Kansas. Bruce and Jean lived in Wichita before moving to their farm west of Howard. He attended the Assembly of God Church in Sedan and the Flint Hills Assembly of God Church in Howard for many years. Bruce was a member of the American Legion Carter Rader Post #149 and Hope Lodge #155 AF & AM in Howard.
Bruce is survived by his brother- in- law and sister- in- law Charles and Jo Pumroy of Wichita, Kansas, two nieces; Katie Huaroto of Port St. Lucie, Florida and Mary Cobble of Wichita, Kansas, one nephew Chuck Pumroy of Tampa, Florida and two great nieces; Shelley Crawford and Becky Walden both of Eureka Springs, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jean Eckland on March 23, 2003 and one brother Paul “Bud†Eckland.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, June 27, 2011 at Countryside - Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard, Kansas with Pastor Robin Haines officiating. Public viewing will be Sunday from 2 to 5 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Grace Lawn Cemetery. Family suggests memorial contributions to the American Legion Scholarship Fund and may be left with the funeral home. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.countrysidefh.com.
