Carl "Mike" Michael Claus' Obituary
Carl "Mike" Michael Claus, a beloved husband, father, and papa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at the age of 69. Born on May 4, 1955, in Emporia, Kansas, he was the son of Carl and Hila (Culbertson) Claus. Raised in Fredonia, Mike graduated high school in 1973, beginning a life defined by dedication, skill, and an abiding love for his family.
On June 2, 1979, Mike married Anita (Tucker), his true soulmate and partner in life in Neodesha. Together, they spent 45 beautiful years, steadfast in their love and commitment to each other, building a cherished life filled with countless memories and adventures. They would spend their free time dancing, swinging on the porch, playing with their dogs, and taking several cruises after his retirement. Their love for each other is a love that we all should aspire to have.
Mike's work ethic was unparalleled. As a skilled welder, he spent 10 years at EMCO, then dedicated 39.5 years to his profession, proudly serving as the Lead Supervisor of the Metal Shop at Cobalt Boats until his retirement in 2021.
Beyond his profession, Mike was an avid gardener. He spent hours tending to his large garden to grow the best tomatoes and vegetables in this area. Every year, his garden would produce hundreds of fresh vegetables that he would give away. Of course, he made the best salsa and canned it for the winter months. He also enjoyed spending every extra minute attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. Mike was a proud papa and loved his grandchildren the most.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Anita Claus of their home; two children Dana (Jeremy) Morris and Michael (Tara) Claus both of Neodesha; one sister, Charity Atoigue of Arkansas City; 5 grandchildren, Jacob and Karlee Morris, and Kale, Grant, and Waylon Claus; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Melinda Miner and brother Danny Hawley.
Cremation has taken place and no services will be given per his request. Memorial donations are suggested to the Neodesha Wrestling Club and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com Services entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home 420 S. 20th St., P.O. Box 247, Fredonia, KS 66736
Forever in our hearts, Mike will be remembered as a loving husband, a devoted father, world’s greatest papa, a gifted craftsman, and the best gardener around.
