Carol Ann Weakley's Obituary
Carol Ann Weakley, age 90 of Howard, KS, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Pleasant Valley Nursing Center in Sedan, KS.
Carol was born December 2, 1932 in Edna, KS to Lloyd and Pansy (Murphy) Fahler. She grew up alongside two sisters, Patsy and Bobbie. She graduated from Howard High School in the class of 1950, and was active in the Cheerleading squad, as well as played the piano and drums in the high school band.
In 1951, she met Vernon Weakley, and they were married on December 21, 1951 in Howard, KS. Together, they spent nearly 61 years together, until his passing in 2012. While raising their children, Carol was a homemaker. She always made sure to attend every school event they had, and would be in the stands cheering them on the football field. After her husband retired, she went to work as the bookkeeper for the Nursing Home in Moline. She was active in the Moline United Methodist Church, and was a member of the Moline United Methodist Women, PEO-Chapter R in Howard, and the Loyal Limas Homemaker Unit.
Carol enjoyed playing the piano, cooking, and canning all the vegetables she grew in her garden. She always kept the bird feeders full at her home just to watch the finches in the winter time. She didn’t have a computer, so she still wrote and mailed letters to people. She was a huge KU fan, and everyone knew if there was a game on, you didn’t dare bother her. In her later years, she would come to Howard every day and make her rounds to the Senior Center, Toots, and Sweet and Spicy to visit with people.
Carol is survived by her sons, Kelly (Charlene) Weakley, and Kyle (Kristen) Weakley; 5 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Vernon, son Lonnie, and sister Patsy VanSickle.
Funeral service for Carol will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Countryside Funeral Home in Howard, KS. The family will receive friends at visitation for 1 hour prior to service.
Interment will follow in Grace Lawn Cemetery, Howard, KS
