Carolyn Sue Berthot 1938-2025
Carolyn Sue Berthot, 86, Chanute died Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at her home, Chanute, Kansas.
Carolyn was born on December 17, 1938 in Chanute, Kansas to Loeata (Singer) Fuller and James Willard Fuller. Carolyn was a beloved mother and full-time homemaker. She especially loved her children, many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She was especially proud of the family farm that she called home for nearly 53 years. This was her forever home with the love of her life, Gary W. Berthot. Carolyn and Gary were married at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Chanute, Kansas on November 30, 1957. They were blessed with five children.
She was a graduate of Chanute High School and attended Mount Caramel Nursing Program at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas. After attending Pittsburg State, she married Gary, and they made their home in Park City, Kansas. Later they moved to the family farm in 1972 and called that home until both of their passing.
She enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting, plants, flowers, fishing, cooking and baking, animals, traveling, gardening, sports, family, friends, church, and volunteering hundreds of hours to her community.
She was a devout member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Alter Society, Daughters of Isabella, Room Mother’s in schools, PTA, Chanute Mother’s Club, CCD teacher, Art Gallery, Chanute Farmer’s Market, St. Patrick’s Bargain Store, Voting Polls, Blood Drives, Lady Elks and Chanute Elks Lodge #806, Chanute Seniors Citizen Club, and more.
She is survived by her children, Kevin Berthot, Chanute, Mechele (Berthot) Guthrie, Elsmore, and Adam Berthot, Overland Park; 10 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; sister Janice Nelson, Belton, and Janet Alcon, Humboldt. She is preceded in death by her sons, John Randall Berthot, and Steven W. Berthot; brother James (Jim) Fuller; husband Gary W. Berthot; mother and father in-laws Inez and Wayne Berthot; and parents Loeata (Singer) Fuller and James Willard Fuller. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted with Countryside Funeral Home. A celebration of life gathering with friends and family will be held at a later date. A private family graveside service has been planned for later in the spring. Memorial masses and rosaries will be held at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Chanute throughout the year. Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to St. Patrick's Catholic School or to the Cherry Street Youth Center in Chanute, Kansas.
