Charles Thomas "Tom" Kemp's Obituary
Charles Thomas "Tom" Kemp, passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, surrounded by his family. Tom was born on May 25, 1951 in Cockeysville, MD to Charles T. and Lillian R. Kemp.
Tom graduated from St Paul’s School, Brooklandville, MD, in 1969 where he was a MD wrestling finalist and in 1978 received a Master’s Degree in Education from John Hopkins University School of Education.
He followed his passion for helping children and taught elementary school and special education in Howard County, MD, until 1981 when he joined Department of Defense Dependent Schools (DODDS) in Baumholder, Germany. In1989, he transferred to Augsburg, Germany, where he met his future wife, Carol. They were married in Japan in December 1994 and continued working with DODDS at Yokota Air Base, Japan, until 2006, when they retired and moved to Rockport, TX.
While overseas, Tom and Carol spent their summers traveling the world and when they retired, continued traveling in the US in their toy hauler/camper. They loved exploring national parks and small towns on their motorcycle and especially loved Kalispell, MT where they stayed for several months. They loved the huckleberry pie and coffee afternoon treats.
Recently, they moved to Humboldt, Kansas to be closer to family.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Carol; his sisters Kitty Barnes of Towson, MD and Mary O’Connell and her husband, Pat, of Parsonsburg, MD; nieces Bobbie Laur and family, Katie Melchor and family and Chris Mason and her husband and Tom’s best friend, Rick, of Humboldt, KS; great nieces Amanda Mason, Cassie Mueller and Emily Roecker and their families.
A service will be held at a later date in Kansas as well as a memorial in Maryland.
