Charles Sesher's Obituary
Charles Sesher, age 83, passed away at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute, KS on January 22, 2015. Charles was born on December 2, 1931 in Cherryvale, KS; the son of Edward C. and Goldenia (Ringle) Sesher. Charles attended Pittsburg State University and graduated in 1958.
On June 4, 1961 Charles married Phyllis Solomon in Chanute and they had two children together. Charles served in the Navy during Korean War. Charles was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad and worked as an engineer and fireman for more than 30 years before retiring. He was a member of the American Legion Post 170, VFW, Chanute Historical Society, Library Board, was a lifetime member of Girl Scouts, served as a City Commissioner and was the beloved Mayor of Chanute. Charles also was a member of the Chanute Rotary Club and help transport medical equipment to Tulsa to be sent around the world. Charles was known as the local historian and wrote several books about the history of Chanute. He wrote a Chanute history column in the Chanute Tribune. Charles was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and brother: William E. “Curly” Sesher.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis; daughter: Susan Belt of Berryton, KS, son: Scott Sesher and wife Penny of Raymore, MO; two grandchildren: Adam and Catheranne Sesher.
Charles decided to donate his body to the University of Kansas School of Medicine. Charles has requested that there to be no memorial services. The family suggests memorials to be made to the Chanute Historical Society or the Chanute Public Library and sent in care of Countryside Funeral Home 101 N. Highland Chanute, KS 66720.
