Christopher Verdin Brazil's Obituary
Christopher Verdin Brazil, age 100, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul, KS. Chris was born March 23, 1914 in Greenbush, KS the son of Thomas “Frank” and Mary Constance (LaForge) Brazil.
He married Eurith Ellen Anderson on April 5, 1938 in Iola, KS. To this union, seven children were born. Eurith preceded him in death. Chris and Eurith resided at Seventh and Highland Streets in Chanute for 50 years.
Chris and his brothers, Joe and Bill, owned and operated the Brazil Motors Dealership in Chanute in his early years. He was a long time cattle rancher and the owner and manager of Benedict Rock and Lime in Benedict, KS until his retirement.
Chris was a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Church. He belonged to the Chanute Saddle Club and was a member of the Elks Club for 73 years, until his passing.
He is survived by his children; Tom Brazil and partner Tim Armstrong of New York, Judy Brazil of Lawrence, KS, Steve Brazil and wife Marcia of Wichita, KS, Dan Brazil and wife Ella of Chanute, KS, Lucinda Gormley of Olathe, KS, Christina Knowles and husband Kris of Lawrence, KS, and daughter-in-law Becce Brazil of Dillon, Co., 10 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
Chris was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Mary, his wife Eurith, a son Phil, nine sisters and two brothers.
Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, May 28, 2014 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Chanute. Rosary will be prayed Tuesday May 27, 2014 7:00 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Church. Family suggests memorials to St. Patrick’s and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
