I remember Claudine taking the time to teach me to play Rummy. I remember her as such a game player and it didn't take a lot to convince her to sit down and play with us younger siblings. She was patient and gave me a lot of good advice, on how to win using critical thinking skills. She was always a good example to me of being a gracious winner also. An now, I "wow" my grandchildren with a skill she taught me.... making that bridge with the cards when we shuffled them.
I've often thought fondly of the times when we would get together to watch movies,(especially the Elvis ones) and I could count on her to know when there was a good one coming on that we just had to see. Psycho was probably pushing my comfort zone a little over the brink though. I was glad that she walked us back over to the house that dark night.
I think the most favorite memory though was of her and Fred having us come over to their apartment and getting us ready to go "trick or treating". She came up with the best hobo costumes and they drove us all over town getting quite a stash of candy, apples, and popcorn balls. It was an experience that was always in the back of my mind when I would take my own children to knock on doors each year.
There is no doubt on how much she enriched my childhood with pleasant memories.
