Cleo M Barnhart's Obituary
Cleo M. Barnhart passed away at Diversicare of Chanute on Saturday, October 14, 2017. She was born on August 24, 1922 to Dennis Daniel and Mary Elmira (Fluber) Kennedy in Walnut, KS.
She graduated from high school as valedictorian in St. Paul, KS in 1940. Cleo worked in manufacturing for many years building airplane parts. She married Ray Wesley Barnhart on March 25, 1941 in Walnut, KS. He preceded her in death on January 23, 1992. Cleo later married Edgar Kustanborter, who also preceded her in death.
Cleo was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She loved her family above all else and was very proud of them. The family celebrated any and all occasions together, especially enjoying Cleo’s Halloween costumes. She was a great friend and was known to spend her spare time volunteering in caregiving roles to many. Cleo also enjoyed fishing, camping, dancing, and playing cards. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Chanute, KS where she served on the Altar Society. Cleo was also involved with the V.F.W. Auxiliary.

Cleo was preceded in death by her husbands, Ray Barnhart and Edgar Kustanborter; two brothers and a sister; daughter, Norma Neely; granddaughters, Pamela Haynes Miller and Krista Haynes; great-granddaughter, Shelby Haynes; great-great grandson, Isiah Brooks; and son-in-laws, Jerry Neely, Ron Haynes, and Cop McNett.
Rosary will be held Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Chanute, KS at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 19, 2017. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Chanute. Online condolences may be left at: www.countrysidefh.com.
