I was so sorry to hear that Cleo was no longer going to be in my life. I found my cousin back when he and Lois first retired and moved to Winfield. He was part of my Beu family and I soon upgraded him to Uncle Cleo. His letters, emails and phone calls were filled with the love for his Sweetheart Lois. What a lovely man. I was hoping I would have had much more time with him. Did enjoy seeing him a few years ago in person but he always made my day when he called. I was trying to get him to record his music for me plus write his and Lois' story for the Family Tree. He was such a special man and will be selfishly missed. But he is where he wanted to be and that is okay. Loved you 'Unk' and will miss your calls.

Cleo came into my shop at Winfield to have me copy some photos of Lois, I combined their pics in one, & he loved it. I didn't charge him for it, so from then on he called me his "angel". He brought in quite a few pics to be copied, and I would do some work on them to make them look better/fix dust spots, etc.. So he started bringing me ceramic angels, and I hold them very dear, and always will. I will miss him more now than I already did(since I had to close my shop, I no longer saw him). He'll have a bigger smile now that he's back with his beloved Lois!!!

Cleo was such a support to me when I was looking for a care center for my mother. When I walked into Cumbernauld I remember him looking right at Linda and asking her "Can't you find a place for this nice young ladies mother??". And we were blessed to have her at Cumbernauld a short time later. At those visits I would always see Cleo sitting in the wing-backed chair visiting and always having a special greeting for me and others. I always enjoyed hearing him at the piano. Especially one time right before my mother's passing...he was at the piano playing beautifully and I sat down and just listening to his music gave me peace to go sit with my mother. I really appreciated how much he was that quiet support for me. Thank you Cleo!

He awaits at Heaven's gates for his Joyous moment he is finally with Aunt Lois. God will give us strength to say our good-byes to Uncle Cleo. A man that blessed so many lives. I will miss our phone conversations about anything, but he always wanted to make sure I had a coat warm enough for recess duty. I can remember at Grandma Leona's house Cleo and Granddad always talking about the next car or truck they were going to buy. My childhood is filled with so many memories of Cleo.

Cleo~ So many things that could be said about such a wonderful, caring, honest and sincere man. But everyone who knew him already knows. I feel blessed and privileged to have had the honor of being even a small part of his(and Lois's) life. He was passionate about life, and everyone in it. I will forever hold on to and treasure our talks. He always had wonderful words of advice for me, about marriage, myself, faith and my children. He would ask questions and wait for you to answer, eagerly waiting to hear every word. I already miss our 8:30pm talks...every night. He would pick up the phone and say "Misty Finney" he always wanted to know how my husbands business was going, what activities the kids were involved in and at the end of every phone call would say, "I love you" and then hang up before you were even able to say it back. Even though my heart is hurting for myself, I am overjoyed that Cleo is now with Lois, where he has wanted to be for so very long. Thank you Cleo for bringing joy to my life, for being there during some very difficult times, and for all of the words of wisdom you have given me over the last 9 years. I will always remember one of the last things you said to me. "Every good thing has a beginning and an end, this is my end, I have longed for it, I am at peace with it, and if I could go back, I would change nothing" I LOVE YOU CLEO

My family came to know Cleo when my Grandfather moved into Cumbernauld Village. They quickly became he best of friends. The shared the same loving and giving hearts. When I first met him it was during the time my Grandfather was passing away. He became very close tothe rest of our family at that time, and stayed in touch with my father through out the years after my Grafather passed. He will truly be missed, and my family has been blessed by having him in our lives. He and Lois are togther once again, adn he has waited for theis moment for a long time. I am sure him and my Granfather have reunited as well!

Cleo was such an individual. He was self taught on the organ and piano. As a child he would go to school an hour early to use the piano. He was a cousin and well respected by my dad, Dale Saffels. They grew up together in Moline and were life long friends. I will miss my visits with Cleo each Memorial weekend.
