Curtis Leslie Weiland's Obituary
Curtis Leslie Weiland, 73, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 in Olathe, Kansas. Born on March 18, 1952, in Neosho, Missouri, to Leslie and Ester (Butler) Weiland, Curtis lived a life filled with service, camaraderie, and a deep love for his family and his passions.
He graduated from Neosho High School in 1970 before embarking on a distinguished career in the United States Navy, serving his country honorably until his retirement in 2011. On March 19, 1977, he married the love of his life, Sharon Johnson, in Iola, Kansas, beginning a cherished partnership that spanned nearly 48 years.
Curtis was a man of many interests and affiliations. He was a founding member of the Chanute Legion Riders, a testament to his dedication and brotherhood. He was also a proud member of the American Legion Post 170, ABATE of Kansas, and Citizens of Kansas, actively participating in the communities he cherished. His involvement extended to various old car clubs and black powder gun clubs, reflecting his diverse passions.
One of Curtis's greatest joys was riding his beloved 1967 Harley FLH, affectionately nicknamed Jezebel. He also found immense satisfaction in archery, meticulously working on his motorcycles and cars, and, most importantly, spoiling his grandchildren.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Ester Weiland, and his son, Ricky Weiland. His memory will be carried on by his loving wife, Sharon Weiland; daughters, Missy Nemyer, Angie Jack, and Dessie Collins; son, Gary Wikel; brother, Rick Weiland; 20 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. His legacy of kindness, dedication, and unwavering love will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
A memorial service celebrating Curtis's life will be held at the American Legion Post 170, 301 N. Evergreen, Chanute, KS 66720, on Saturday, May 17th at 4:00 PM. The family has entrusted arrangements to Countryside Funeral Home.
