Dale Eugene Allen's Obituary
Dale Eugene Allen, 87 of Chanute passed away on Monday, October 7, 2024.
Dale was born May 18, 1937 on a farm in Chanute. Dale attended rural elementary schools and graduated from Erie High School in 1955. He attended Pittsburg State University for two years until he and a friend decided to enlist in the United States Air Force.
Dale married Margaret Daily on October 8, 1959 at the United Methodist Church in Chanute. They had 2 children, Randy and Joy.
Over his 22 years in the Air Force, he spent time in 14 countries and several bases around the United States.
Some of the highlights of his career were being stationed at the Panama Canal while it was still US property, Korea, and his last duty station, Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska.
Dale retired from the Air Force in 1979 as a Master Sargent. He returned to school for his certification as a plane mechanic. He worked at Churchill in Chanute and Gates in Iola until his final retirement.
Dale continued his service through his involvement with the American Legion and VFW in Chanute. He held many offices in the American Legion Organization including being 2011-2012 American Legion Kansas State Commander.
Dale is survived by his son Randy Allen and his wife Donna of Cheney; daughter Joy Allen of Chanute; grandchildren. Kristen Allen, Megan Allen, Jaren Allen, and Tony Allen; two great granddaughters, and brother Wendell Allen of Chanute.
Dale was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Allen; parents, Harry and Myrtle Allen; brother, Merle Allen, and sister, Mary Miles.
Following Dale’s wishes, cremation will take place under the direction of Countryside Funeral Home and the family will lay Dale to rest with full military honors at Memorial Park Cemetery in Chanute on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at 1:00 pm. Services will be officiated by Chaplain Mike Bright and the American Legion Post 170 Honor Guard will perform Military Honors.
