I was looking at a photo of David from 2001 and wondered if he was still with us. He was very helpful to me - a historian and modeler with an interest in Moline. He always kept his eyes open for rail related items to show me. When a bunch of cowboys surrounded me with guns drawn at Howard after 911 as I photographed an alfalfa mill (they thought I was sabotaging their water supply, I told them to call David and he would vouch for me. Enough said, they left me alone. He was a fine man!

I consider myself very lucky to have known “Uncle Dave.” His kindness, sense of humor and, of course, his story telling are legendary.
My favorite memory?? The infamous “birdbath” catastrophe at Irene McClelland’s July 4, 1985. Classic… David Brace…
He was, quite simply and truly, one of the good ones. 😔🙏🏼🙏🏼
