David Alvin Cawthon Jr. 's Obituary
David “Jo-Mar” Alvin Cawthon Jr. passed away at Labette County Health in Parsons, KS on Feb. 14, 2015; he was 86 years old.
David was born in Cullison, KS on Dec. 15, 1928; the son of David Alvin and Alene (Coffman) Cawthon. David’s father passed away just a few months before he was born. He grew-up in Cullison and attended twelve years of school there before graduating in 1947. During his school years David worked for the local grain elevator and at Toews Hardwood Store. Part-time after graduation David went to work for Jo-Mar Dairies until he went into the United States Army.
In 1950, just before he was inducted he married Patty Ann (Ellison); the couple was blessed with two sons: Floyd and David “Duane”. Patty preceded David in death in August of 1999. During his service David spend time in Japan and then went to Korea serving on the front lines until he was sent home in 1953. After he returned David continued to work for the Dairy for a short time until the couple decided to move to Chanute with their two sons. While in Chanute David worked for Aero Duct, now known as HBD/ Thermoid, he worked there for 26 years before retiring in 1993.
David was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Patty Ann and five brothers and sisters. He is survived by his sons: Floyd Cawthon and wife Beulah and David Duane Cawthon and wife Marilyn all of Chanute, KS; his grandchildren: Melissa Curtis, Desiree Aikins and Justin Cawthon; great-grandchildren: Alaina and Adric Aikins and Bryce and Blair Curtis as well as many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for David are planned for Friday, Feb. 20, 2015 at 10:30AM at Countryside Funeral Home- Gibson Chapel. The family will meet with friends the evening prior to the service, Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015 from 6:00-7:00PM, also at the Gibson Chapel. The family suggests memorials to Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness- Chanute, KS; which may be sent in care of Countryside Funeral Home 101 N. Highland Chanute, KS 66720.
