David Tyrrell Newman's Obituary
David Tyrrell Newman, age 86, of Chanute, KS passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2016 in Chanute. David was born on March 22, 1930 in Southampton, England the son of Charles Tyrrell and Gladys (Mitchell) Newman.
In 1950 while living in England David met Mary Elizabeth Ann Reid-Laurie and they were married on November 15, 1952 at Church of the Ascension in Southampton, England. They had two children together before moving to Chanute in 1961. Mary preceded him in death on October 18, 2016. They were married for 63 years.
David was trained as a tool and die maker in England and he used his skill both in England as well as at the Army Ammunition plant after they moved to Chanute. Later in life he also worked as a woodworker for Hi Lo. He was a skilled woodworker and was known for his wooden bit boxes which were featured in a February 2016 exhibit at the Chanute Art Gallery. He was a history buff, a member of the Bottle and Relic Club, a member of the Neosho Democrats and a Mason but most of all he was a people person. He never met a stranger and liked to talk with anyone. David loved his family and was very proud of them, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church in Chanute.

David was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Mary.
Cremation has been requested. A Celebration of Life Service for David and Mary Newman will be held on Friday, November 25, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Grace Episcopal Church in Chanute.
