Derrick Allen Lee Wunderlich's Obituary
Derrick Phillipi was born May 31, 1995, in Coffeyville, Kansas, to Suzie L. Phillippi Wunderlich and Jeffery A. Battaglear. Derrick’s early childhood was spent in Coffeyville, Kansas. When Derrick was five, Bill A. Wunderlich, the man who would adopt him seven years later, entered his life. In 2004 Derrick and his parents moved to Severy, Kansas, where they currently reside. Derrick was better known as D-Rod, a nickname given to him by his close friends. He was known as a laid-back, easy-going, go-with-the-flow young man. Derrick loved tinkering with his “Shaggin’ Wagon,” a 1978 Buick Skylark. As a teenager he enjoyed listening to music, playing video games, and hanging out with his friends, but most of all he enjoyed fishing. Derrick passed away July 15, 2017, at the age of 22, in Coffeyville. He is survived by his parents, Susie and Bill Wunderlich, brothers Jake and Barret, maternal grandparents Jerry and Tommie Phillippi of Dearing, Kansas, and paternal Harry and Connie Wunderlich, Piedmont, Kansas. Surviving uncles are Jerry & wife Melissa Phillippi, Kansas City, Mo; Brad Phillippi, Norton, KS; Danny Phillippi & wife Shadana, Claremore, OK; Harry L. Wunderlich & wife Karen, Piedmont, KS; David Wunderlich, Piedmont, KS; and Jack Wunderlich & wife Jennifer, Grenola, KS. Surviving aunts are Peggy and husband Aaron Titus, South Coffeyville, OK; Angela Phillippi, Independence, KS; and Kristy Hall, Trenton, TX. Sixteen cousins also survive. Visitation is Monday, July 31st, at the Countryside Funeral Home, Howard, Kansas, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. The family has suggested memorials be made to the future education and development of Derrick’s brothers, Jake and Barrett Wunderlich.
