Dolly Darlene Lawrence's Obituary
Dolly Darlene Lawrence passed away at her home with her son by her side on Saturday, September 10 in Elk Falls, Kansas. Dolly was born on February 20, 1935 in Towanda, Kansas to Marian and Nealy (Kennedy) Martin. She worked in civil service for the government for many years after being honorably discharged from both the United States Marines and the United States Army. Her travels took her Germany and many of the states before she and her son, Dale, came back home to Elk Falls.
Dolly lived a politically active life having once been a part of the Young Republican movement. She kept up to date on the political happenings, watching TBN faithfully. She ran for public office in Long Beach, California, losing the race for city council by only 15 votes. She also was a religious person and took her faith very seriously.
Dolly was very close to her father, Marian, and was said to be his favorite—which could possibly account for the closeness she shared with her son, Dale, who cared for Dolly since her illness began several years ago. Dolly went to school nights on the GI bill and worked hard so that her son, Dale, could be in a private military school. She and Dale traveled extensively and visited Dolly’s siblings often.
Leaving to mourn her passing is her son, Dale of the home. Preceding Dolly in death are her parents, her brothers and sisters: Pinky, Mabel, Zelma, Doris, Francis, Pep, Ralph and Beulah.
A Memorial Service at 12:00 noon followed by a dinner luncheon will be held on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at the Elk Falls United Methodist Church officiated by Pastor Dena Allison.
Memorials are suggested to the Elk Falls United Methodist Church and may be mailed or left at the funeral home.
Countryside Funeral Home in Howard, Kansas located at 206 E. Washington, is in charge of the arrangements.
