Dolores Ann Goodnough's Obituary
Dolores Ann Goodnough (nee Brown), born on January 9, 1937, in Chanute, Kansas, peacefully passed away on July 30, 2024 in Henderson, Clark County, Nevada surrounded by her loving family.
Dolores was born to Raymond and Katherine (nee Bartholomew) Brown. She was a beloved daughter, sister, and wife. She was one of nine siblings: David Brown, Fred Brown, Araminta Schoonover, Karen Griffith, Phyllis Truster, Ralph Brown, Kathy Stanislaus, and Max “Steven” Brown.
Dolores was the beloved wife of the late Lawrence “Larry” Goodnough, whom she met in the fourth grade. After falling deeply in love, they married after high school, and Larry's service in the Navy took them to San Francisco, California.
They later moved to Rowland Heights, California where Dolores and Larry spent the majority of their lives. Together, they raised four wonderful children: Rebecca Goodnough, Loretta Goodnough, Lawrence Goodnough, Jr., and Robert Goodnough. Sadly, Larry predeceased Dolores in 1982, leaving a void that was never truly filled.
Dolores, however, remained a spunky and sassy woman, unafraid to wield a rolling pin, tell you off, or cut you off for the last spot at the gas station. Her spirited nature was matched only by her sweetness. She was very competitive and never “let” her grandchildren win a game whether it be checkers, chess, mancala, or any card game, because she believed in teaching them the value of persistence and skill.
Her love for soap operas and sports, particularly college basketball, football, and her Angels baseball, was well-known, and she was never to be disturbed during these times.
A remarkable cook, Dolores ensured that no one ever left her home hungry. Her love for finding deals was a testament to her resourcefulness, a trait shaped by growing up during World War II.
Dolores’s legacy is one of love, strength, and an unyielding spirit. She will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Katherine, her husband, Larry Goodnough, Sr., her brothers, David, Fred, and Steven, and her sister, Araminta.
She is survived by her children, her daughters-in-law, Diedre Goodnough and Suzanne Goodnough, her grandchildren, Jeffery and Katherine Chandler, Laura Medina-McCarthy, Matthew Medina, Jennifer Spelman, and Kimberly Stutzman, and her great-grandchildren, Brianna Smith, Alexis and Nicole Chandler, Zoey and Logan Spelman, and Theadora and Eloise Stutzman.
Rest in peace, Dolores (GMa Dee). Your memory will forever be cherished.
Funeral Services for Dolores will be held at Countryside Funeral Home, 101 N. Highland, Chanute on Friday, August 16th at 10:00 am with burial immediately following at Memorial Park Cemetery.
