Donald Otto Friederich Sr.'s Obituary
Donald Otto Friederich, Sr., age 93, of Chanute, KS, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2017. Donald was born on December 28, 1923 in Chanute, KS, the son of Otto Henry and Lavera Louise (McLaren) Friederich.
On June 24, 1942 Donald married Anna Matlock at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chanute. She preceded him in death on December 29, 2016.
Donald graduated from Chanute High School in 1941. After graduation, he served in the United States Army from 1943 until being honorably discharged in 1945. Donald went to work for Mid-America Refinery in Chanute where he worked for 40 years before the company went out of business. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. His grandchildren had several nicknames for him including Pahoo, Big Grandpa, Gramps, and Pops. Donald was an avid hunter and fisherman and once had the best raccoon hunting dogs in Southeast Kansas. He enjoyed telling his hunting stories, bowling, playing baseball, and fixing bicycles for the neighborhood kids. Donald was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, American Legion, and the National Rifle Association.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Anna; brother, Gerald Leon Friederich; and great-granddaughter, Lindsey Maria Friederich.
A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, March 13, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Chanute, KS. Online condolences may be left at: www.countrysidefh.com. Memorials have been suggested to the American Cancer Society or St. Patrick Catholic School and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
