Donald Lee Odell's Obituary
Donald Lee Odell of Fredonia, age 72, died Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. Donald was born September 22, 1938, the son of Harlan A. and Ellen May (Thompson) Odell. He attended East Rainbow School and graduated from Fredonia High School in 1957.
Don took over the family farm at a young age and worked it until his death. He also worked as a carpenter, helping build several homes in the area. In 1986, he began work with Midwest Minerals, retiring in 2008.
Don married Sandra Gale Borror in Altoona on October 3, 1964, she survives at their home. The couple have three children, Phillip Wayne of Fredonia, Sean Andrew and wife Bonnie of Fredonia, and Jennifer Ann Driskill and husband Michael of Oklahoma City. Seven grandchildren, Lee Andrew and wife Jacqui of Winona, Ashely Brooke Smith and husband Shawn of Thayer, Stephen Cody, Seth Andrew and Duste Larain Odell of Fredonia, and Samantha Ann and Catherine Alice Driskill of Oklahoma City. Three Great grandchildren; Brylea Smith of Thayer, and Bryson and Zoey Odell of Winona. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Ella Odell.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, and brother; James Odell.
Don was a loving husband and father, and a dependable neighbor and friend. He will be missed by his family and the community, and a whole generation of kids that grew up rearranging the hay in Uncle Don’s barn.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at Countryside Funeral Home, with Mike Myers officiating, burial to follow at the Bachelder Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, November 22, 2010 from 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. with the family receiving friends from 6-7. Memorials have been suggested to the Wilson County Old Iron Club and may be left with the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at: www.countrysidefh.com.
