Doris Loraine Claiborne's Obituary
Doris Loraine Claiborne, 85, a resident of Fredonia, Kansas, passed away on October 29, 2023, at her home, with her family around her. Doris was born December 26, 1937, in Fredonia, Kansas, the daughter of Leo Hiram and Margaret Opal (Butner) Ward. She graduated from Fredonia High School with the class of 1956. After graduation she attended secretary school at Topeka, Kansas.
On July 19, 1959, she married Oty Guy Claiborne, the son of Sylvester Oty and Edna Claire (Cummings) Claiborne at the Methodist Church in Fredonia, Kansas. They made their home just West of Coyville, Kansas in a house that Guy had built God blessed them with one son, Kenton Guy Claiborne in 1961. They later divorced.
Doris was a member of the First Christian Church in Fredonia. Doris worked at the Kansas Bank Note, Wilson County Extension Office, Claiborne Grain, Wilson County Courthouse in the Treasurer Office, and the Social and Rehabilitation Services Office, during her life. She was also the bookkeeper for Rural Water District #9, Election Board member and a member of the Optimist Club.
Doris worked at the Christian Thrift Shop after retiring. She enjoyed decorating the store front window with various collections of clothing for the season. Doris was known for her pretty flower garden; you would quite often see her out tending to her flowers and yard. Doris was also known for her witty sense of humor.
Survivors include her son, Kenton Guy Claiborne (Kathy) of rural Coyville; grandson Keith Compton (Audrey) of Fredonia, granddaughters, Kebra Panko (Ryan) of Toronto, Kyla Baker (Devin) of rural Coyville. Great grandchildren are Arcadia Compton, Caydence Compton, Ila Panko, Sage Baker, and Bowen Baker.
Other survivors include a sister, Thelma Hise (Dwight) of Auburn, Kansas and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Margaret Ward, a brother Billy Ward, sister-in-law Judy Ward, and a niece Diana Montoya.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at the Countryside Funeral home at 2:30, the family will receive friends at the funeral home 1 hour prior to service time. Burial will follow at Weakley Cemetery following the funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Christian Church of Fredonia and or the Weakley Cemetery and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
