Doris Jean McMillen's Obituary
Doris Jean McMillen, 87, of Chanute passed away Sunday, December 22nd, 2013 at her daughter’s home in Chanute.
Doris was born in Chanute, Kansas on June 23, 1926, the daughter of Chas J. and Mabel Cooper of Chanute. She graduated from Chanute High School in 1944.
She married Mr. Joe McMillen, January 22nd, 1954 and began her life on the farm. Doris was the epitome of a farmer’s wife. She took great pride in keeping meals prepared, the house cleaned and tending to things around the farm. She spent many miles on the road moving Joe from field to field.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Chanute, KS.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Joe McMillen, her parents Chase and Mabel Cooper, brother Wayne Cooper, an infant sister and her son-in-law Bill Carter.
Doris is survived by her daughter, Marsha Carter of Chanute, KS; two grandchildren, Marcee Binder and husband Zach of Independence, KS and Ryan Carter and wife Amy of Chanute, KS; two great granddaughters, Rainey and Rylan Carter.
Memorials in her name may be made to First United Methodist Church’s Awana children’s program and may be left with the funeral home.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 27, 2013 at 2:00 P.M.at the First United Methodist Church, in Chanute, burial will follow at the Zion Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
