Doris A. Smith's Obituary
Doris A. Smith, age 87, formerly of Chanute, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2016 in Owasso, OK. Doris was born on June 10, 1929 in Bellwood, IL the daughter of Fredrick Harrison and Agnes Mae (Allen) Grove.
On March 8, 1947, Doris married Robert Hesting and they had four children together. They moved to Chanute in 1951. In 1963 they divorced. Then on November 8, 1968 she married Wayne J. Smith in Miami, OK. Wayne preceded her in death on February 27, 2000.
Doris grew up in the Chicago suburb of Bellwood and graduated from high school there where she was a cheerleader and a member of the swim team. She loved the city life and often talked about taking the Chicago busses around the city. She was a baseball fan who loved the Chicago White Sox and was even a cousin to starting pitcher Orval (Lefty) Grove. She was a homemaker until all the children had started school, then worked as a bookkeeper and secretary and also at the army ammunition plant. She was a Sunday School teacher at the First Assembly of God and Zion Lutheran Church in Chanute, and at Faith Lutheran Church in Owasso, OK. In her spare time Doris loved to swim and sunbathe.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne; 2 brothers; 2 sisters; and 2 step sisters.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 18, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Chanute, KS. A visitation will be held on Monday, July 18, 2016 from 10 a.m. to noon at the church. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Chanute. Online condolences may be left at: www.countrysidefh.com.
