Dorothy Alene Disney's Obituary
Dorothy Alene Meisch Disney, age 75, passed away Saturday, November 3, 2012 at her son’s home in Americus, Kansas. She was born January 14, 1937 in Higgins, TX to Paul Roger Meisch and Opal Neoma Brown Meisch. When she was in the 2nd grade, the family moved to a farm between Severy and Howard, KS, and when she was in the 8th grade, the family moved to Piedmont, KS.
She met her husband Delbert Scott Disney at a dance in Hamilton, KS, and they were married in 1955 at the Presbyterian Church in Howard, KS. They lived their married life in Emporia, KS where they raised five children.
Dorothy was very active in her children’s lives, serving on the PTA at Mary Herbert Elementary School, and also as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts and as a Girl Scout Leader, not only for her children, but also for her grandchildren. Girls Scouts was an important part of her life. She was a lifetime member of both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.
Besides raising 5 children, she also had many jobs through the years; Nurses Aide, Distributorship in Emporia of the Topeka Daily Capital, and Day Care.
After her husbands’ death in 1995, Dorothy moved back to Howard, KS to be closer to her brothers and sister. She worked for many years at the Twilight Manor in Howard, where she was a compassionate worker, caring for the laundry and other needs of the residents.
Dorothy also worked at her sister’s café, Lila’s Café, in Piedmont, on Saturdays.
Dorothy is survived by her children Douglas Disney (Jena Johnson) of Americus, KS; Neoma Disney Flanagan of Garner, NC; Steven Disney (Mary Price) of Emporia, KS; Teresa Disney Holliman and Paul of Santa Clarita, CA; and Diane Disney Brunk and Curtis of Madison, KS; as well as 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, her brothers Frank Meisch of Chanute, Roland Meisch of Howard, her sister Lila Wunderlich of Piedmont, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was proceeded in death by her husband Delbert (Diz) Disney, her parents, Roger and Opal Meisch, 1 sister Sally Barnaby, 2 brothers, WF Meisch and Otto (Bud) Meisch.
Dorothy will long be remembered as a caring and giving Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and friend.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 9, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Countryside – Zimmerman Funeral Home with Pastor Robin Haines officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to Hand in Hand Hospice of Emporia and Harry Hynes Hospice of Southeast Kansas, which were both instrumental in helping Dorothy through her final valiant battle with her cancer.
