Dorothy June Holman's Obituary
Dorothy June Holman, age 82, of Chanute, passed away peacefully Friday, September 19, 2014 at Guest Home Estates, surrounded by her family. Dorothy was born June 1, 1932 in Kansas City, MO. the daughter of Leroy and Doris (Hardman) Phillips.
Dorothy married Donald Eugene Holman on February 27, 1949 in Chanute. Dorothy was a volunteer at the hospital, a school bus driver, and a Sunday School Teacher. After the passing of her husband she served as a nanny, first for a family in Topeka, and later for a family here in Chanute. She belonged to the Big Creek United Methodist Church and more recently the Otterbein United Methodist Church. Dorothy’s most important role in life though was that of wife, mother, and grandmother.
She is survived by her children; Steven Holman of Topeka, KS, Larry Holman and wife Janet of Chanute, Elizabeth York of Gardner, KS, Richard Holman and wife Cindy of Russellville, AR, Barbara Donovan and husband Mike of Chanute, brother; Donnie Phillips of Chanute, 14 grandchildren, 15, great-grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her father; Leroy, mother; Doris, and step-father Dallas Hart, husband; Donald, brothers; Leroy Phillips, Jimmie Phillips, and sister; Mildred Ostrander.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 24, 2014 2:00 p.m. at the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Chanute. Interment will follow at Neosho County Memorial Cemetery on 21st St.
Family suggests memorials to the Cherry Street Youth Center or the Chanute Cancer Center, and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
