Douglas William Barnow's Obituary
Douglas William Barnow, 67, passed away at Neosho Memorial Regional Hospital in Chanute, KS on April 2, 2019. He was born on March 1, 1952 in Chanute to Charles William and Mary Fay (Edwards) Barnow. Doug married Deb Koch on September 10, 1971 and two children, Rob and Angie, were born from this union. They later divorced in 1993. Doug married Ronda Thummel on January 8, 1999 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas and she survives at their home.
Doug was a loving husband, dad, and grandpa who was easy-going, never met a stranger, always willing to help others, and preferred staying busy over sitting still. He enjoyed many hobbies including hunting, fishing, piddling in his shop, cast-iron cooking, camping, sitting around a campfire, and traveling. In his younger years, Doug enjoyed bowling, golfing, and playing softball where his teammates referred to him as “Frog” because of how he ran and jumped. He was the hardest worker around, and while Doug wasn’t one to brag about his accomplishments, his family was proud of him being named Chanute Lodge #806 “Elk of the Year” in 2014 and employee of the year at Custom Campers in 1992, where he worked for many years before working at Young’s Welding where he was currently employed. He loved sports, especially the KC Chiefs and KU Jayhawks. In addition to being a 40-year member of the Chanute Elks, Doug was also active in the Sons of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliary. Doug will be missed by his family, friends, and all who had the honor of knowing him.
