Ellen Jeane Cavins' Obituary
Ellen Jeane Cavins, age 92, of Chanute, Kansas, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 22, 2017. Ellen was born on November 3, 1924 in El Reno, Oklahoma, the daughter of French Marshall and Amelia E. (McCoy) Laughlin.
On December 25, 1942 Ellen married Robert L. Cavins, Sr. in Calumet, Oklahoma. Robert preceded her in death in 1997 after nearly 55 years of marriage.
Ellen was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She worked as head cook at a Humboldt nursing home for many years, at Self-Service Grocery Store in Chanute for 19 years, and retired from Wal-Mart after 9 years, where she worked in the fabric department. In her spare time, Ellen loved to make crafts and spend time with her family. She was a member of The Farmer’s Wives for 50 years and attended the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt, Kansas.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Robert, Sr; son, Robert Cavins, Jr.; grandson, Micah Cavins; granddaughter-in-law, Tasha Cavins; great- granddaughter, Jade Cavins; sister, Ella Louise Lassman; half-brother, Ray Laughlin; and half-sisters, Tress Penwright, Lara Bell, and Edna Smith.
A Graveside service is scheduled for Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Humboldt, Kansas. Online condolences may be left at: www.countrysidefh.com. Memorials have been suggested to Cherry Street Youth Center and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
