Esther Ortiz's Obituary
Esther Ortiz, age 94 of Chanute, KS, passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at NMRMC in Chanute, KS. Esther was born on April 14, 1924 in Chanute, KS, the daughter of Juan and Brigida (Oliva) Serrato. She attended Chanute schools. On February 11, 1955, she married Luis Ortiz in Miami, OK.
Esther spent her career in retail sales and was one of the longest serving business owners on Main Street. She enjoyed cooking, baking, making candy, crocheting and knitting. She loved listening and dancing to Mexican music. Esther was the first female president for the Chanute Mexican Fiesta and she also served on the committee from 1966 to 2016. She was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church. Family meant the world to Esther, so much that she started the Serrato Family Reunions and they continue to this day. She loved her family dearly and she will be greatly missed.

13 Grandchildren and several Great Grandchildren
Esther was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Luis; daughter, Delores Brill; great grandchildren: Chris Martinez, Jalen Clounch and Oliver Ortiz; brothers: Alfred Serrato, Serafin Serrato and Emilio Serrato and sisters, Juanita Ortiz and Elisa Narvaez.
Rosary will be recited on Friday, March 1, 2019 at 10:15 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Chanute. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will follow the service at St. Patrick Cemetery in Chanute. Online condolences may be left at: www.countrysidefh.com. The family suggests memorials to be made to Ollie’s Toy Box and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home, 101 N. Highland, Chanute, KS 66720.
