Ethel Dolores "Dee" Rose's Obituary
Ethel Dolores “Dee” (Ashcraft) Rose, age 83, of Chanute, KS passed away on November 9, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. She was born on February 15, 1933 in Neosho County, KS to Andy C. and Alpha L. (Mattox) Ashcraft.
On November 19, 1960, she married Richard C. Rose in Erie, KS and they spent 54 years together before Richard’s passing on June 19, 2015.
Dee lived in Neosho County, KS for most of her life. She graduated from Erie High School in 1951 and then moved to Chanute.
Dee worked for Oilfield Research Laboratories in Chanute and then for two years at Bradford Laboratories in Denver, CO as a lab technician before returning to Chanute. Back in Chanute she got a job working for T.H. Chronemeyer Tax Service. After Mr. Chronemeyer’s death she, together with Leona Morgan, purchased his business. When Mrs. Morgan retired, Dee purchased her half and renamed the business Rose Income Tax Service. She worked in the income tax business for 40 years before retiring in 2000.
During her free time, Dee enjoyed bowling, golf and making quilts for her grandchildren. The beach was a favorite destination.
Dolores is survived by a daughter: Kathy Rose-Grippa (Paul) of Athens, OH; a son: Richard Rose, Jr. of Pittsburgh, KS; sisters: Dorothy Wright of Denver, CO, Lila Fern Warstler of Redmond, OR, and Evelyn Faye Allgood of Hemet, CA; sisters-in-laws: Marylea Ashcraft and Laverne Ashcraft both of Parsons, KS; 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard; a daughter, Charleen Rose; two grandsons: Mike and Matt Grippa; and two brothers: Glen and Lonnie Ashcraft
A visitation will be held on Monday, November 14, 2016 from 5-7 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home, Johnson Chapel. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the New East Hill Cemetery in Erie, KS. Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com. The family suggests memorials to Castaways Animal Shelter and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
