Eva Mae Malone's Obituary
Eva Mae Malone, age 91, a resident of Moline, Kansas passed away Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She was born on February 28, 1923 in rural Chautauqua County, Kansas the daughter of Ralph and Lettie (McAlister) McGregor. Eva attended school at Lone Tree and Center and graduated from Moline High School.
She attended college at Southwestern College in Winfield. Eva taught school in the rural area and did a lot of substituting in several towns. On November 22, 1942, Eva was united in marriage to Lawrence Leon Malone at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Moline. They made their home in Chautauqua County until they built their new home in Moline in 1985. Each Monday she would quilt with the women at the church and also helped with funeral dinners. In addition, she enjoyed crocheting, sewing and, of course, the patching and mending that had to be done. For fourteen years the Malones were members of the Moline square dance group. At one time Eva also decorated cakes.
Eva is survived by her husband of 71 years Lawrence Malone of the home, two sons, Alton Malone and his wife Marie of Emporia, Kansas and Leroy Malone and friend Wanda Mills of Moline, Kansas, one daughter Corrine Wood of Hurst, Texas, 9 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and a brother.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Countryside Funeral Home with Pastor Dorothy Ellsworth officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Belknap Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Moline United Methodist Church or the Moline Senior Center Friendship Meals and may be left with the funeral home. Online condolences may be left at www.countrysidefh.com.
